Palakkad: Two RSS activists who were the accused in the case of the assault on mediapersons in the premises of the Ottappalam court surrendered at the Shoranur police station today.
RSS district pracharak Vishnu and Sumesh reached the police station and surrendered before the police.
The Cherpulassery police had charged cases against three RSS workers under section 302 of the Indian Penal code which included attempt to murder.
The incident happened on Tuesday in the premises of the Judicial First class magistrate court in Ottappalam were six BJP activists who were involved in the CPM-BJP clashes in Nellaya near Cherpulassery were brought by the police.
At that time, one of the reporters who did not have a cameraman was clad in a “mundu” and was videographing the scene on his mobile. The RSS activists demanded to know who he was and asked him to show his identity card.
This resulted in an altercation and the RSS activists manhandled the three reporters who included Shyam Kumar of Asianet, Sreejith of Reporter TV and Anoop of a local channel.The camera of one of the reporters was confiscated and thrown on the ground. The three reporters then went and got admitted in an hospital.
Vishnu who surrendered today was functioning as a pracharak in Palakkad for the last two years. He was a native of Vattiurkavu in Thiruvananthapuram.
