V D Rajappan Passes Away

KOTTAYAM: Kathaprasangam artist and cine actor V D Rajappan,66, who had regaled generations with his comic roles and parody songs, passed away here on Thursday. Rajappan, hailing from Peroor in the district, had been hospitalised for the past few days at a private hospital here.

Rajappan, who has acted in nearly 100 movies, is best remembered for his unique stand-up comedies in which vehicles and animals were the main characters.

The parodies of popular Bollywood and Mollywood film songs made him a much-sought-after ‘Kathaprasangam’ artist so much so even Gulf countries hosted his programmes. Audio cassettes of his programmes were sold like hot cakes at the peak of his career.

Among his memorable kathaprasangams are ‘Priye Ninte Kura,’ ‘Kumari Eruma,’ ‘Mak Mak,’ ‘Ennennum Kurangetante,’ ‘Chikayunna Sundari,’ and ‘Avalude Parts.’ His performance in movies like ‘Mutharam Kunnu P O,’ ‘Kakka,’ ‘Engane Nee Marakkum,’ ‘Attakalaasham,’ and ‘Kusruthikattu,’ were a hit with viewers.
