KOCHI: ADGP B Sandhya who took charge of the investigation of the sensational Jisha murder case said it would take some more time before the probe is completed.   She was speaking to reporters after a meeting of the investigation team at the Aluva Police Club on Friday afternoon.

On Friday, seven more police officials were added to the probe team. Though the ADGP refused to divulge the names of the officers, it is learnt that SP P N Unnirajan; Ernakulam Crime Branch SP V K Madhu; DySPs Sojan, Sudarshan and Sasidharan; and circle-inspectors Baiju Paulose and Shams have been included into the 80-member team. There are also unconfirmed reports that Kollam Rural SP Ajitha Beegum also joined the investigation.  A decision on replacing DySP K M Jijimon, the current investigation officer, will be taken later.   The meeting lasted for nearly three hours. Later, Sandhya, along with the new members of the investigation team, visited the residence of Jisha at Iringol near Perumbavoor. She also visited Jisha’s neighbours.

Later, the ADGP and her team visited Jisha’s mother and sister at the government hospital, and recorded their statement.

Unnirajan appointed new Rural SP

P N Unnirajan has been posted as the Ernakulam Rural SP, to replace Yathish Chandra G H who has been appointed as Crime Branch SP in Thrissur. Special Branch CI Baiju Poulose will become the new Perumbavoor circle-inspector, replacing Muhammad Rivas. CI Shamas has been posted as Kuruppampady CI, to replace K N Rajesh.

Activist draws ire for malicious remarks

Kochi: Dalit and adivasi organisations have came out against activist Jomon Puthenpurakkal for allegedly making controversial remarks questioning the paternity of Jisha, who was brutally raped and murdered at Perumbavoor. Speaking at a press conference here on Friday, leaders of the organisations said that at a time when the entire nation is condemning Jisha’s murder, such statements were tantamount to insulting the victim and her family.  “Neither Jisha nor her family members had ever raised questions about her paternity. Jomon’s comments can only divert attention and weaken the investigation. Such comments are being made because Jisha, who belongs to the dalit community, is an easy target,” said  Dalit-Adivasi Human Rights Protection Council convener M Geethanandan. Meanwhile, the Kuruppampady Police have registered a case against Jomon on a complaint filed by Jisha’s father for allegedly defaming the family.

IG to move HC against SPCA

Inspector General of Police Mahipal Yadav, who has been under fire from the State Police Complaints Authority (SPCA) for not attending its meeting on the sensational Jisha murder case, on Friday alleged that the SPCA was acting in a prejudiced manner, and that he would move the Kerala High Court seeking disposal of the summons.

The IG’s response came after the SPCA issued a second summons asking him to attend the SPCA meeting to be held on June 1.

“Currently, the SPCA has no power to interfere in the ongoing investigation. Only the High Court and Judicial Court can interfere in the investigation. If the SPCA is persistent on interfering in the investigation, I would move to the High Court,” the IG told ‘Express.’

According to him, the agency can conduct inquiry if there is any misconduct on the part of any police official. “It should understand the limitations of the police and respect the institution. There is no doubt that the SPCA’s order would harm the ongoing investigation,” said the IG, adding that there was no need to call all the top officers to the meeting.
