ALAPPUZHA: The circuit boards used for the IED explosion in Malappuram, Kollam and Mysuru were suspected to be brought from Navi Mumbai.
An investigation carried out by the Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad of the Kerala Police found that a bunch of circuit boards were purchased from an electronic shop at Navi Mumbai during the first quarter of this year.
Printed circuit boards were used as timers in the IED planted at Kollam and Mysuru courts. The Kerala police identified the shop but they could not trace the person who purchased it. The shop owner had given statement to the investigation team that around 20 circuit boards were purchased from the shop and he was unable to recollect the identity of the person who bought it.
Sources in the Kerala police said that Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad officials traced the origin of the circuit board after the Kollam incident. The Kollam blast occurred on June 15 and at Mysuru on August 2.
The investigation team also suspects that a similar circuit board was used to trigger the blast at Chittoor in Andhra Pradesh on April 7. However, the investigation team could not identify the origin of the circuit boards. But the similarity in making of the IED hints that the same hands were behind the making of the bombs.
All bombs were made in the same manner as batteries were strapped around the explosives.
After the Kollam and Mysuru explosions, the state police had warned that there is likelihood of more explosions, taking a cue from the number of circuit boards purchased from Navi Mumbai.
