MALAPPURAM: Even as the BJP-ruled Gujarat imposes life term for cow slaughter and Uttar Pradesh plans on enforcing a ban on cow slaughter and illegal abattoirs, its candidate in bypolls for the Malappuram constituency is singing a different tune.
N Sreeprakash, the party candidate in the Lok Sabha bypolls from Malappuram is promising voters that if elected, he would ensure the supply of quality beef here.
Speaking to reporters at a ‘face to face' programme here, the BJP candidate said: "If I am elected to Lok Sabha I will ensure the supply of quality beef here. We do not have the rights to deny this from the people."
He assured that the slaughterhouses would be made air-conditioned besides providing them with better facilities. Sreeprakash said he would ensure hygienic meat market if elected to parliament.
When inquired about his take on the restriction imposed on beef sale in some Northern states, he said the ban was necessary there to curb the illegal sale of meat through unlicenced abattoirs. It is illegal to consume beef in states where a ban on cow slaughter is in place, he added.
Sreeprakash alleged that it was the UPA government that actually banned butchering of cows in several states, and not the BJP.
