THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Kerala government on Monday entrusted Crime Branch Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) Nithin Agarwal to probe the alleged police excesses against Jishnu Prannoy's mother Mahija, on Wednesday.

The government order in this regard was issued on Monday. This comes after Mahija lodged a complaint regarding police action in front of DGP Lokanath Behera’s office on April 5, after which she was forcibly removed.

The ADGP (Crimes) has been asked to conduct an immediate inquiry into the allegations and submit a report to the government through State police chief Lokanath Behera at the earliest.

Speaking to Mahija over the phone on Sunday, chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan assured to look into her complaint over police action.

Mahija, currently in Medical College hospital following the incident, had alleged police excesses against her when she went to the DGP's office to demand the arrest of accused in the Jishnu Prannoy case.

Mahija had been on a hunger strike at the hospital and ended her fast on Sunday, after her phone conversation with CM Pinarayi Vijayan.

Nithin Agarwal is also heading the special investigation team formed to nab the remaining accused. On Sunday the team had arrested the third accused in the case, N K Sakthivel, vice principal of Nehru College of Engineering and Research, Pampady.

Jishnu Pranoy, a first year student of Nehru College of Engineering in Thrissur, was found hanging in the college hostel in January last, following alleged harassment by college authorities.
