Senkumar arrested, let off on bail

In an unprecedented move, the Kerala Police arrested and let off its former chief on bail.

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: In an unprecedented move, the Kerala Police arrested and let off its former chief on bail. T P Senkumar, a 1984-cadre IPS officer, who led the state police force till June-end, was arrested by the Cyber Police for allegedly spreading religious hatred. The case was based on an interview that appeared in ‘Samakalika Malayalam’ weekly. He was released on two solvent sureties after recording his statement.

Sources said his arrest was recorded on July 29 after he appeared before the investigation team.  

Reportedly, Senkumar told the investigating officer he had referred to some statistics which were not intended to insult any community. Meanwhile, the forensic experts submitted before the court they could not recover his voice from the phone recorder of the reporter.
