Jishnu Pranoi case: SFI students mob Nehru College chairman, break up PTA meeting

They demanded that the issues that have cropped up following the suspension of students of Pharmacy College should be settled.

PALAKKAD: The controversy over the death of student Jishnu Pranoi continued to rage in Kerala with Students Federation of India (SFI) activists besieging P Krishnadas, chairman of the Nehru group of institutions, at the college in Lakkidi on Saturday.

They demanded that the issues that have cropped up following the suspension of students of Pharmacy College should be settled.

The college management had called a meeting of the Parents and Teachers Association at the Jawahar College of Technology in Lakkidi. However, SFI activists arrived at the college and disrupted the PTA meeting.

It was then decided that issues regarding Jawahar College of Technology would be discussed at a meeting at the rest house in Ottappalam on Monday at which students and representatives of the management would be present. The meeting will be presided over by the sub-collector,

It was also decided to convene a meeting at the Thrissur Collectorate on Monday evening which will be attended by PTA representatives and the district collector to discuss issues regarding the Nehru College in Pampady.

The controversy started after Jishnu Pranoi, a first-year engineering student of Nehru College in Pampady, was found dead in the hostel on January 6 after he was allegedly threatened by the college authorities. The management has been saying that he committed suicide after he was caught for copying in the examination.

Classes have not been held for one month after violent protests erupted in the college over the death of Pranoi.
