District Collector Jeevan Babu K has sought a report from the DMO after the physiotherapy of a 12-year-old endosulfan victim resulted in the fracture of the boy’s leg and hand.

KANNUR: District Collector Jeevan Babu K has sought a report from the DMO after the physiotherapy of a 12-year-old endosulfan victim resulted in the fracture of the boy’s leg and hand. According to the Adhur-based family, Abdul Rashiq, 12, has fragile bones because of endosulfan-related ailments and the physiotherapy at the General Hospital broke his leg and arm.

The boy’s father Aboobacker said he was taken to the hospital with knee pain. The orthopaedic surgeon referred him to a physiotherapist and the boy returned home after treatment. On July 10, he was brought back with pain on limbs and it was found there was fracture on his leg. The doctors bandaged his leg and sent him back.  On Wednesday, he was brought to the hospital again with severe pain. On examination, doctors found his arm too was fractured.

The Collector said the boy has been admitted to the Pariyaram Medical College Hospital and is given free treatment. The district administration has instructed the hospital authorities to give him all required treatment, he said.

“The family alleged the multiple fractures were a result of physiotherapy. We can arrive at a conclusion only after the doctors study the case,” the Collector said. DMO A P Dinesh Kumar said the Superintendent of General Hospital had conducted a preliminary inquiry which ruled out the possibility of fracture following physiotherapy.

Meanwhile, the Endosulfan Peeditha Janakeeya Munnani said police should register a case and investigate the allegation. The plight of the boy reveals the irresponsible attitude towards the victims and the inefficiency of the Health Department, it said.
