KOCHI: The Kerala High Court on Friday quashed a case against Kerala Law Academy Law College former principal Lakshmi Nair, who was accused of having made casteist remarks against a student belonging to scheduled caste.
The Peroorkada police in Thiruvanthapuram registered case against Lakshmi Nair based on a complaint by VG Vivek, an All India Students Federation (AISF) activist, who was in the forefront of Law Academy strike. The police booked her under section 3 (1) (s) of Sc and ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act.
On Friday, Vivek personally appeared before the court and informed that the allegation was withdrawn on removal of Lakshmi Nair from the office of principal on settlement of all issues with the agitating students. "I withdraw all the allegations against Lakshmi Nair to constitute the offence SC/ST Act. I am not a member of 'Pulaya' community. I am continuing my studies in the college and there is no pressure or undue influence from the part of Lakshmi Nair or from the management of college," stated in the affidavit submitted by Vivek.
He also gave the consent to quash the criminal proceedings against Lakshmi Nair.
Lakshmi Nair submitted that no purpose was being served in continuing with the investigation and charge sheeting her in the case as the complainant unconditionally withdrew the case.
Recording the affidavit of Vivek, the court quashed further proceedings against Lakshmi Nair.
In the complaint, Vivek had stated that when he was standing in front of the principal's office along with his four friends on January 21, 2016, Lakshmi Nair had ridiculed him, causing him mental agony and lowering his self esteem.
