Kerala to get fully electrified tag today

The minister said thousands of families, including Dalits and Adivasis, in Idukki, Wayanad and Kasargod were given power connections in the past one year

KOZHIKODE: Kerala will become a totally electrified state with Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan set to make the announcement in a function at 3.30 pm at the Government Model HSS on Monday. The Chief Minister will also launch several projects as part of the first anniversary of the state government.

Inauguration of ‘Sahya’, the first multi-tenanted IT building of the Cyberpark, Thalakkalathur 650 kilowatt solar power plant and signing of an MoU for the district panchayat’s project to set up solar power plants in 44 schools are among the key projects in the chart. The `3.5-crore solar panel project aims to produce 5,80,000 units of electricity per year.

As part of complete electrification, the KSEB had spent `174 crore to set up infrastructure to provide power to 1.5 lakh houses in the state.  Assembly speaker P Sreeramakrishnan, Opposition Leader Ramesh Chennithala and Revenue Minister E Chandrasekharan will attend the function.

‘4.7 lakh houses got power connections in last one year’
Kasargod: The LDF Government has provided power connections to 4.7 lakh houses in the past one year, said Electricity Minister M M Mani. Of these, 1 lakh houses were provided power connection as part of the total electrification scheme of the state government, he said. He was speaking after declaring Kasargod as a ‘fully electrified’ district at a function at Palakkunnu on Sunday. With this, all the 14 districts of the state have been ‘fully electrictified’. Kerala has provided power connections to all those who submitted applications, he said. Mani said. ”The feat has been achieved as a result of the collective effort of KSEB staff,” he said.

‘No power outages’
Though fully electrified, the state is not a power surplus state, he said. Despite severe drought and shortage of power, the government would see to it there are no power outages, M M Mani said.
