ALAPPUZHA: The missing files related to the construction of Lake Palace Resort owned by Transport Minister Thomas Chandy on Monday resurfaced just as mysteriously as they had vanished.  They were found inside a cupboard at the municipal office.

Besides,  the file related to the permit granted for 18 buildings - A 1 to A18 - was found in the cupboard of the engineering wing. However, the files of buildings A 19 - A 34 are still missing, said an officer of the municipality. This was confirmed by municipal chairman Thomas Joseph.
“The disappearance of the files was noticed on August 16 after the Revenue Minister sought  a report from the Collector on the construction of the buildings at the resort built in 2000. The other three files, including the building permit granted for the remaining 16 buildings, are still missing. We examined the files which surfaced and found everything to be proper,” Joseph said.

However, the sudden reappearance of the missing files has given rise to suspicion leading to calls for a detailed probe to help bring out the facts.“ After the files went missing on August 16, the officers thoroughly checked all the cupboards and tables. But the fact the files resurfaced after one month gives rise to suspicion. Three files are also still missing. So a detailed investigation should be conducted to bring out the facts, said a municipal councillor. A couple of officers who had overall charge of the files in the municipality were transferred out in the incident’s wake.

Govt will act against Thomas Chandy if illegal encroachment of land occurred, says kodiyeri

Thrissur: CPM state secretary Kodiyeri Balakrishnan on Monday said the government will take action against Transport Minister Thomas Chandy if it is found illegal encroachment of land occurred in the construction of the Lake Palace resort in Alappuzha. He also said those who had any complaints about the same should seek the legal way. Kodiyeri was speaking to reporters on the sidelines of a seed sowing programme organised in Puthur to promote organic farming. He categorically denied there were any cracks in the LDF. “There are no differences in the alliance,” he said. On Tourism Minister’s Kadakampally Surendran’s Guruvayur Temple visit which had triggered a controversy, Kodiyeri said corrective steps will be taken against those who deviate from communist philosophy and principles. “Party members should live by example and follow the party guidelines,” he said.
