THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Former police chief T P Senkumar who was accused of making derogatory remarks against the victim in the Malayalam actor assault case has been cleared of the charges.

A police probe, based on a complaint by Women in Cinema Collective, found that the retired officer's comment wasn't made purposefully.

Senkumar had made the remarks in a private phone conversation when the retired officer was being interviewed by a weekly reporter. The reporter recorded Senkumar's conversation without his knowledge, according to the probe report by Thiruvananthapuram DCP PN Ramesh Kumar.

The report was handed to Kerala police chief Loknath Behera.

Meanwhile, a Crime Branch probe was underway against Senkumar for alleged anti-minority remarks made in the same interview.
