MALAPPURAM: The women’s conference, to be held at Valanchery Markaz, has triggered controversy by ousting Muslim Students Federation (MSF) leader Fathima Thahiliya from the panel list.Touted as the first of its kind, the conference will be held at Markaz as part of its Wafiyya college convocation. Wafiyya colleges are run for Muslim girls by Coordination of Islamic Colleges (CIC), under the aegis of Samastha Kerala Jamiyyathul Ulama. Programme organisers said the MSF leader was expelled from the panel for her controversial comments on triple Talaq. In a Facebook post, Thahiliya had urged to ban triple Talaq, citing it is anti-woman. The opinion had drawn strong ire from various Muslim organisations and a faction of Indian Union Muslim League (IUML).

Wife of late Panakkad Syed Umerali Shihab Thangal Mulla Beevi will preside over the conference while IUML State president Panakkad Syed Hyderali Shihab Thangal’s wife Fathima Suhara Beevi will be present. Besides, wives of various Thangals in the Panakkad family Sulfath Beevi, Sajna Beevi, Haniyya Beevi, Shabana Beevi and Haniyya Haseena Beevi will also attend.
