THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Clarifying her stand on the appointment of the members of the State Child Rights panel, Social Justice Minister K K Shylaja said  there was no political interference in the appointments. ‘’There is nothing wrong on my part in the appointments to the child rights panel. In my entire political career, I have not used politics for any personal gains,’’ she said in the Assembly.
Noting the court had only made an observation with regard to the extension of date for the application and not made any other adverse remarks, she said the court would be approached for clarifying the extension of the date.

Shylaja said the date for submitting applications was extended for accommodating qualified and experienced persons in the Child Welfare Committee. It was extended for only bringing transparency in the appointments and not for including any person. She said the appointments were made after an interview board had selected them in the most scientific manner. “There is nothing wrong with the appointments,’’ she said. All the six members have been appointed after getting clearance from the Vigilance, Home and Law Departments. She also said there was no complaint with regard to the Wayanad CWC member, who has been appointed now. But the case was only against two other members and not against the person who was appointed now, she added.

Of the six members appointed, she said no one was from the CPM. Four among the six had earlier worked with the CWC and two others had experience in the child sector. There was also a nun among the members appointed, she said.
