Cabinet sanctions Rs 10 lakh as financial assistance to the family of Jishnu Pranoy

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Cabinet on Wednesday sanctioned Rs 10 lakh as financial assistance to the family of Jishnu Pranoy, the student of Nehru College of Engineering and Research Centre, Pampady, whose death has sparked off a controversy.

Jishnu was found hanging in his hostel room on Friday following an alleged harassment by the college authorities. The death had sparked off agitations by student organizations across the State. The youngster was allegedly caught while copying during an examination. On Tuesday, officials of the APJ Abdul Kalam Technological University, who visited the college, said they did not receive any complaints from the college authorities regarding the copying incident.

SFI and KSU activists had vandalised the college office on Monday. On Tuesday, AISF activists attacked the Malappuram office of Nehru Group of Institutions.
