I never gave clean chit to Dileep: Senkumar

KOCHI: Former DGP T P Senkumar on Friday said he had not given a clean chit to Dileep in the case related to the abduction and assault on an actress in Kochi. Senkumar was responding to queries on his controversial interview to Samakalika Malayalam Vaarika, in which he stated ADGP Sandhya had interrogated Dileep for over 13 hours only for creating publicity and there was no clear evidence against him.

He said the weekly had not published the full version of his statements.
“At a particular point, there was no evidence to arraign anyone as accused in the case, and the police too had no evidence against the actor. This is what I meant,” he said.

Senkumar said doubts could not be presented as evidence before the court in the case.“What was the need to conduct such a marathon interrogation which lasted up to 1.30 am without making proper preparations. Evidence and suspicion are different from each other,” Senkumar said.

Asked whether the state police chief’s permission to arrest five more persons in connection with the case would put the investigation team under pressure, Senkumar said a probe team did not require such permission if it had ample evidence.  “The government has a positive approach with regard to the case and it had not adversely interfered in it,” he said.  He also alleged some top officers in the department are holding the documents related to his pension papers.
