PDP calls state hartal as NIA court rejects Madani’s bail plea

The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has called for a state-wide hartal on Wednesday in protest against the decision of the NIA Special Court in Bengaluru to deny bail to its chairman Abdul Nasser Mada

KOLLAM/ KOCHI : The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has called for a state-wide hartal on Wednesday in protest against the decision of the NIA Special Court in Bengaluru to deny bail to its chairman Abdul Nasser Madani to attend his son’s wedding at Thalassery on August 9. The court, which considered Madani’s bail plea on Monday however granted him permission to visit his ailing mother at Karunagapally.

He will stay in Kerala from August 1 to 6. Madani is currently undergoing trial at the NIA Special Court in connection with the Bengaluru blast case. Announcing the decision to observe a dawn-to-dusk hartal on Wednesday, PDP working chairman Poonthura Siraj alleged the Karnataka Government was misleading the court and giving scant regard to human rights.

Traders not to cooperate
The traders and merchants have decided not to cooperate with Wednesday’s dawn-to-dusk state-wide hartal called by the PDP in protest against denial of bail to incarcerated party leader Abdul Nassar Madani to take part in his son’s wedding.

In a release, T Naseeruddin, Kerala Vyapari Vyavasayi Ekopana Samithi(Kvves) president, made it clear the traders will not cooperate with the hartal.“We will not allow normal life to be disrupted on account of the hartal called in protest against an isolated incident.
