THRISSUR: The Forensic Department has failed to extract the DNA from the blood stains obtained from the rooms of the vice-principal and PRO of Nehru College to ascertain if it belonged to Jishnu Pranoy.

Superintendent of Police N Vijay Kumar said on Saturday the Forensic team had informed them they were unable to separate the DNA from the blood stains from the rooms, where Jishnu was allegedly beaten up.In an earlier examination, the investigating team had determined the blood stains found in the hostel room and bathroom were of Jishnu, he said.

It was alleged Jishnu was tortured to death. The blood stains found in the rooms added fuel to the speculations raised by his relatives.

Jishnu’s uncle K K Sreejith told ‘Express’  the blood samples collected from the two rooms matched Jishnu’s group (O positive) and they also got the DNA. The police also took blood samples of his parents for DNA matching.

“We suspect there is an effort to sabotage the case to safeguard the culprits. The DNA is one of the most important evidence. Knowing this well, there is an effort to scuttle the probe citing it couldn’t be separated from the blood stains,” he said.

Sreejith said the wound marks found on Jishnu’s body were not recorded in the postmortem report. The investigating team also found lapses in the postmortem, he said.

Now, the family pins hope on the Supreme Court, which will consider the case on July 2.
“We will plan our next course of action after the court gives its view,” he said.
