IDUKKI: With Abhimanyu’s family yet to recover from the grief over the sad demise of their beloved son, a second-year BSc Chemistry student at Maharaja’s College, Ernakulam, who was stabbed to death allegedly by some Campus Front activists on July 1, the exuberant visit by Malayalam film actor and Rajya Sabha MP Suresh Gopi in a cinema style has turned out to be a subject of controversy among the public.

Suresh Gopi visited Abhimanyu’s house at Vattavada on Saturday at around 8 in the morning with BJP district president Binu Kaimal and other BJP and RSS local leaders. A room was booked for him at the Tea County Resort, owned by KTDC at Munnar. However, Suresh Gopi preferred to stay at a private resort in Adimaly. The actor abandoned his luxurious car halfway to Abhimanyu’s house and traveled in an auto rickshaw to reach his home.

However, photos of the actor abandoning his car and taking selfies with party workers on the way were taken and posted on social media by some local people, which created a controversy.

Suresh Gopi met Abhimanyu’s parents and told them he has come not as a film star, but as a common man. When he enquired about the case, Abhimanyu’s father replied he was satisfied with the investigation by the police.

The BJP and RSS leaders accompanying him informed the residents about the arrival of the MP. When the residents came out of their house, they could see Suresh Gopi taking selfies with party workers.

Locals said they thought he had come to Abhimanyu’s house to express his condolences. “However, we found the actor sharing happy moments with the party workers and taking selfies with them,” they said.
The photographs were posted on social media by the party workers themselves, which invited severe criticism from members of the general public.

Gopi promises E 1 cr funds for Vattavada

Idukki: “A Central fund of I 1 crore will be allocated for the development of Vattavada grama panchayat in Idukki,” said Rajya Sabha MP and Malayalam film actor Suresh Gopi. The MP made this promise while meeting the Vattavada panchayat members and other officials after visiting Abhimanyu’s family. He promised Abhimanyu’s parents that he will give all the support and help he can and expressed his condolences as well.

The fund will be allotted initially for putting up a one-teacher school at Vattavada, which stands far below in terms of education. MP has asked the local self-government to prepare a detailed plan for the project. The fund will be allotted in the order of submitting the projects. The residents of the village are in greater hope that the MP’s visit will greatly help the development prospects of the village.
