CHENGANNUR: The sculpture on the premises of Tharangam Convention Centre of the Mar Thoma Church near the Pampa bank at Arattupuzha near Chengannur submerged in floodwater from the river on Tuesday.

The sculpture was made by Chengannur-based sculptor Balakrishnan under the directive of the late Zacharias Mar Theophilus Suffragan Metropolitan, the former head of Chengannur diocese of the Malankara Mar Thoma Syrian Church.

The floodwaters seemed to bring alive the sculpture’s theme of Jesus saving his followers from a storm.

2 crew members rescued from floating dry dock

Kochi: Two crew members of Al Fattan, a floating dock which got grounded off Thottappally beach two days ago, were rescued by a team from the Indian Navy on Tuesday morning. The floating dock was on its way to Abu Dhabi from Sabang in Indonesia, when it grounded in the coastal sea.

An Advanced Light Helicopter (ALH) from the Navy Air Squadron 322 was deployed to evacuate the two Indonesian crew members. The duo was taken to INS Garuda, the naval air station in Kochi, and handed over to the Coast Guard and civil administration to complete the emigration formalities. The rescue operation was a tough task as sea was rough and the weather conditions adverse.
