KANNUR: Seven years after he was expelled from the party on moral grounds, CPM strongman and former district secretary P Sasi returned to the party as an ordinary member. The party has reinducted him to the Thalasserry Town Court branch.

The decision of the state committee regarding his re-entry was reported in the district committee in June. Steps to reinduct him began only after reporting the same in the Thalasserry area committee.

Sasi was ousted from the party in July 2011 after serious allegations were leveled against him on moral grounds. At the time of expulsion, he was the district secretary as well as the state committee member of the party. Last year, the Hosdurg magistrate court exonerated him in the sexual abuse case filed by TP Nandakumar.

After the verdict, Sasi conveyed his wish to rejoin the party to senior leaders. As he was one of the pillars of the party during his heydays, the state committee discussed the matter and decided to reinduct him.

After his expulsion from the party, Sasi had shifted his residence to Thalasserry from Mavilayi. Working as an advocate in the Thalasserry bar, Sasi has appeared for party workers in many cases.

It is said that Sasi had informed the party leadership about his desire to rejoin under Thalasserry area committee. That’s why the decision of the state committee was reported in the Thalasserry area committee.
Though the party had to bow before the pressure to expel Sasi, insiders who raised allegations against him tasted the wrath of the top leadership. C K P Padmanabhan, a former state committee member, was relegated to the branch committee and another leader who had raised the issue was ousted from the party.
