Kerala: Rape threat greets Plus 1 students at Patharam school
KOLLAM: Plus One students of the Santhinikethanam Model Higher Secondary School (SMHSS) in Patharam, one of the largest schools in Kollam district, might have expected mild ribbing from seniors at the start of the academic year. But what they received was rape threats.
A flex board, with images of porn actors and a warning that juniors who ignore senior students would be punished with rape, erected at a vacant plot opposite the school, welcomed them when the classes started on June 21. The police have since removed the flex, after the image of board went viral on social media.
“The flex board was not immediately noticeable by the passer-by. But it became a topic of criticism in social media after a private tuition teacher posted the image on WhatsApp groups,” said school manager Nandakumar. According to him, it was an attempt to tarnish the image of the school.
PTA president Sivakumar said a meeting convened on Tuesday decided to give petition to Chief Minister and Education Minister.“Initially there was an apprehension that some of the students in Plus-II were involved. But we have come to the conclusion that miscreants from outside were behind the act,” he said. School NCC officer Sunil P, who is in charge of the in-house investigation, said CCTV footage of people putting up the flex was available. Sooranand sub-inspector Sajish Kumar said the police have so far not received any formal complaint.Despite repeated attempts, school principal Mini M R could not be contacted.
