KOCHI: To curb corruption and fund misappropriation even at the police station-level in connection with local purchases, the Police Department has decided to introduce an inventory in the Internal Administrative Processing System (IAPS).Senior police officers said the new system will make it mandatory to provide details of all purchases made at the station level. 

“Details of the items purchased must be uploaded to IAPS. The department aims to bring in complete transparency on the public money spent,” said the officers. Currently, no proper inventory list is maintained at the station level. “It has come to our notice purchases are made for faulty parts of computers and printer regularly. There is no system in place to check whether or not the faulty parts have been replaced,” said senior officer.

Kerala IT wing SP J Jayanath said a new option will be added to the IAPS in which details of all purchases should be uploaded. “We can peruse the purchase records whenever we want and verify it. This will help us identify whether actual purchases have been made or not,” he said.
