DLitt degree for M K Sanu, Kalamandalam Gopi, Unithiri
KOCHI: The Kalady Sree Sankaracharya University of Sanskrit will confer DLitt degrees to Kalamandalam Gopi, M K Sanu and N V P Unithiri for their overall contributions to performing arts, literature and the Sanskrit language, respectively.
P. Sathasivam, Governor and Chancellor of the University, will award the degrees at a function to be held on Tuesday at 9.30 am.Gopi, a distinguished Kathakali artist, was honoured with the Padma Shri award in 2009. He also served as the principal of Kerala Kalamandalam. A prominent critic, M K Sanu has authored several books and is the recipient of Padmaprabha Literary Award, Kendra Sahitya Academy Award, Ezhuthachan Award, and Kerala Sahitya Academy Award.
Unithiri is a renowned Sanskrit scholar with around 200 books and translation works to his credit. He was the former head of Sanskrit Department, Calicut University, and the former Principal-Dean of the Sree Sankaracharya University of Sanskrit.
University V C Dharmaraj Adat will preside over the function, which will be attended by Higher Education Minister K T Jaleel, who is also pro-vice chancellor of the university.
