THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Just days after the Chief Minister’s announcement to end the practice of ‘nokkukooli,’ unloading work of a private contractor was disrupted at the airport here on Saturday.
Airport sources said local headload workers demanded Rs 20,000 to allow a private contractor to unload consignments of cables using a crane. A private contractor had brought six cable drums on two trucks for the work of the domestic terminal.
As per the request of the contractor, an assistant labour officer came to the spot and asked workers to unload the consignment at government-fixed charge, Rs 1,200.
