Abhimanyu murder: MLA refutes insinuations in wife’s FB post

John Fernandez MLA has distanced himself from the Facebook post by his wife N P Jessy, saying such posts have no basis and it should be rejected with the contempt it deserves.

KOCHI: John Fernandez MLA has distanced himself from the Facebook post by his wife N P Jessy, saying such posts have no basis and it should be rejected with the contempt it deserves. In an FB post the other day, Jessy had hinted that some CPM leaders had tried to protect the killers of SFI leader and Maharaja’s College student Abhimanyu.

Fernandez, the nominated Anglo-Indian member of the Assembly, in a statement here on Thursday said his wife made the FB post on the basis of a telephonic conversation she had with an officer of the Education Department. “The statements in the FB post have no basis,” he said. “The CPM has been taking a strong stand against fundamental outfits. The party has been on the forefront in resisting the communal and fundamental elements in society,” Fernandez said.

In her post, Jessy alleged the SDPI has gained entry into all mainstream political parties in West Kochi. “At a time when the CPM is fighting against communal forces across the country and is emerging as a role model when it comes to upholding secularism, any statements or messages indicating otherwise will weaken the party, and this should be avoided at any cost both by the party workers and its sympathisers,” said Fernandez.

The whole state is protesting against the murder of Abhimanyu. There has been a strong sentiment against fundamental organisations such as SDPI following the incident. The SDPI, which is facing flak from society, is trying all tricks in the book to come out of the situation. It is in this context fake messages are being spread against CPM, Fernandez said.
