One arrested for trolling Kerala girl Hanan Hamid on social media

Police is questioning Noorudeen Sheikh, against whom various provisions of the IT Act and other non-bailable offenses have been slapped.

KOCHI: One person has been arrested in connection with the online defamation of Hanan Hamid, the 19-year-old Kerala student who bore the brunt of massive online abuse and social media trolls after it came to light that she was selling fish.

Hanan, a chemistry degree student, has been selling fish after her college hours to support her ailing mother. Sheikh posted an abusive video that was circulated online.

Police is questioning Noorudeen Sheikh, against whom various provisions of the IT Act and other non-bailable offenses have been slapped.

Noorudeen Sheikh abused her online, questioning her credibility and claiming that she was a fake. Her pictures along with actors like Mohanlal was circulated online, insinuating that her fish-selling was staged in order to land a film role.

Reacting to the arrest, Hanan thanked the government and her college for standing by her side.

Police warned that more people will be arrested for abusing Hanan online. Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan had supported the girl in an FB post, following which the police decided to act against the online bullies.
