THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Continuing with his tirade against Oommen Chandy and Ramesh Chennithala, senior Congress leader and former KPCC president V M Sudheeran on Saturday alleged ‘mystery’ and ‘sabotage’ behind the controversial seat sharing.

Sudheeran said the Congress representation in the Rajya Sabha would come down with the seat-sharing agreement with the Kerala Congress (M). He urged the KC(M) to do a rethink on their demand as it would cause tremendous loss to the Congress and the UPA.

Referring to Chandy and Chennithala, Sudheeran said those who moved against him during his tenure as KPCC president were the same people behind the seat-sharing decision that hurt the Congress workers’ sentiments.“Workers strongly believe that the agreement was made to prevent a Congressman from getting the seat,” he said.

Without naming Chandy, Sudheeran said the person had quit the post of finance minister when an ally lost the seat. “Also, none should forget the palace rebellion against a former CM,” he said referring to the alleged attempts by Chandy to unseat former CM K Karunakaran.

Sudheeran wondered about Kerala Congress chairman K M Mani’s current stand on the allegations that he raised while quitting the UDF two years ago. “If he is withdrawing the allegations, he should tender an apology as well,” Sudheeran said.

Sudheeran also countered M M Hassan’s arguments citing precedence —  giving the Rajya Sabha seat to Veerendra Kumar and the Kollam seat to the RSP. “The RSP was included in the UDF after due consultations. But this has not been followed in the case of Kerala Congress. This has only weakened the Congress and hurt the workers,” he said.Sudheeran added that the critique against his open criticism was unfounded as it had happened in the past also.
