KASARGOD: Keeping up his attack on K M Mani over the Rajya Sabha seat from Kerala, Congress leader V M Sudheeran said the Kerala Congress (M) supremo is practising opportunistic politics and stands exposed before the people of Kottayam.

At an event in Trikaripur, Sudheeran asked what was the guarantee Mani would not join BJP after sending his son, Jose K Mani, to the Rajya Sabha. “He should make his stance clear. How can he still claim an equidistance stance after joining back the UDF?” he asked.

He said the resignation of Jose from the Lok Sabha, with just one more year to go, was a betrayal of democracy. “The UPA will lose a member in the Lok Sabha, which in turn will be a gain for the BJP,” he said.

Mani also ensured a Congress candidate did not make it to the Rajya Sabha. He bargained with three parties, including BJP, Sudheeran said. “He has lost his credibility before people because of his vacillating politics,” he said. Mani is sending Jose to the Rajya Sabha now because he was not sure if he could ensure his son’s victory in people’s court again, Sudheeran said. “It exposed his lack of confidence in the people of Kottayam,” he said.

When the Kerala Congress left the UDF, it used acerbic words to criticise the Congress and the UDF. “The party has to explain if those criticism stands or it has withdrawn them,” he said. Sudheeran also said the Congress was facing a revolt from the grassroots because the leadership took the decision ignoring the sentiments of the party workers.

‘No democratic norms followed in granting RS seat to KC(M)’

Kochi: Thrikkakara MLA P T Thomas has come out against Oommen Chandy, Ramesh Chennithala and M M Hassan, alleging no democratic norms were followed in granting the RS to KC(M). “The decision to allot the RS seat to a party that was not a UDF ally was taken jointly by the three leaders (Chandy, Chennithala and Hassan) in a secret meeting. The matter should have been discussed in UDF and KPCC. K M Mani had quit the UDF without any valid reason. The political situation when Mani left the front still exists. K M Mani and his party should explain whether the political situation has changed or not,” he said.
