Rules related to fishing operations should be strictly enforced: Kerala HC

The Kerala High Court has made it clear that the rules brought in by the state government with regard to the fishing operations, including those governing traditional fishermen.

KOCHI: The Kerala High Court has made it clear that the rules brought in by the state government with regard to the fishing operations, including those governing traditional fishermen and country fishing boats, should be strictly implemented.

The court issued the order while dismissing the petition filed by Charly Joseph, president, Fishing Boat Operator’s Association, Kollam, seeking to declare that the imposition of the trawling ban in the state from June 9 and the extension of the ban period from 47 days to 52 days are illegal. The director of fisheries submitted the decision to introduce the ban from June 9 was taken considering various aspects, including climatic conditions which could endanger fishermen.
