THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Hours after BJP national president Amit Shah unleashed a scathing attack on the state government on the Sabarimala issue, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan shot back terming the former's statement as one against fundamental rights and the Supreme Court.

His words have brought to light the true colours of the Sangh Parivar and the RSS, said Pinarayi in a Facebook post. He said his government came to power through people's verdict and not because of BJP's benevolence.

"Shah's statement in Kannur is more against the Supreme Court, Constitution and rule of law than the state government. His remark the court should issue only those verdicts that can be implemented sends out a message that the fundamental rights guaranteed by the Constitution are not to be followed," said Pinarayi.

Pinarayi Vijayan said Shah’s remarks on gender equality should be viewed as a precursor to the argument that caste-based discrimination should not be curtailed through law. His words make it clear they are still not ready to accept the concept of gender equality.

Pinarayi attacked Shah for his alleged intimidation the state government would be brought down.“Shah should realise this government came to power through people’s verdict, not because of BJP’s benevolence.

“ Through his statement, Shah is sending out a message the people’s verdict will be sabotaged. Such threats are being made for implementing the apex court verdict and protecting the fundamental rights under the Constitution,” Pinarayi said.
