THIRUVANANTHAPURAM:  Sarang B R, a Class X student of Government Boys HSS, Attingal, was among the students who secured A+ in all subjects in the SSLC exam. But when the results were announced on Friday, the 16-year-old was no more. The boy, who met with an accident on May 13, breathed his last on Wednesday but his organs had given a lease of life to six people.

A teary-eyed General Education Minister V Sivankutty announced Sarang’s results separately at the press conference in which the exam results were declared. The boy, who was a promising football player, bagged A+ in all subjects even without grace marks. The minister, who had visited Sarang in hospital earlier, lauded the decision of his family to support the noble cause

despite being in deep sorrow. Sarang met with an accident at Kallambalam - Nagaroor road at 3.30 pm on May 13 after the autorickshaw in which he was travelling lost control, hit an electric pole and turned turtle. The boy, who was thrown on the road, sustained serious injuries to his head and was rushed to a private hospital here.

After Sarang was declared brain dead, his family gave consent for organ donation. Both his kidneys, liver, heart valve and two corneas were donated to six people. Health Minister Veena George termed as ‘exemplary’ the family’s decision to come forward for organ donation despite the grief over his demise.
