KOZHIKODE: RMP leader KS Hariharan's sexually abusive remark about LDF candidate KK Shailaja and actor Manju Warrier has paved path for another controversy in Vadakara.
"Will someone make a porn video of the teacher? It would be understandable if it was Manju Warrier's porn video," said Hariharan during an anti-communal rally organised by UDF on Saturday at Vadakara. The controversial remark was made at a program attended by opposition leader VD Satheesan and Vadakara UDF candidate Shafi Parambil.
Later when the remark became controversial, KS Hariharan expressed his regret through a Facebook post. However, UDF leaders have publicly denounced Hariharan's statement.
Vadakara MLA and RMP leader KK Rama publicly rejected Hariharan's anti-women remarks. Rama told the media that Hariharan's remarks were inappropriate.
"Such remarks or a single word against women should not come from anyone's part. It is something we are constantly discussing about. But we still see many people continue to make such remarks. These kinds of remarks are very painful in a progressive society," said Rama.
"There is no justification for Hariharan's mistake. Hariharan used words that should not be used in public or even a private conversation. The statement was cent percent inappropriate. You can express political disagreement with women, but not abuse them personally," said UDF candidate Shafi Parambil during a press meet in Kozhikode on Sunday.
However, DYFI slammed Hariharan and demanded legal action against him.
"UDF-RMP leader Hariharan's speech underlines the heinous anti-women campaigns led by UDF in Vadakara throughout the election period. UDF's election campaigns broke all boundaries of decency and turned an election period into a gathering of communal and anti-women forces in Vadakara. UDF's Saturday's rally was indeed an anti-women conference," says DYFI's facebook post.
"Hariharan's speech is a challenge to the cultural society of Kerala. The speech proves how the RMP-UDF leadership looks down on even the most respected self-made artist in Kerala," the post says.
