THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Close on the heels of the Centre deferring the passage of the contentious Foreign Contribution (Amendment) Regulation Bill, 2026, in Parliament, BJP state president Rajeev Chandrasekhar has assured that the Modi government will not pass the legislation unless the concerns raised by stakeholders are effectively addressed.
Chandrasekhar told the media that he had promptly taken up the matter with the Centre, including Union Home Minister Amit Shah, when the heads of various Christian churches expressed their reservations over certain clauses in the Bill.
“Besides, parties such as the Congress and KC(M) had started a propaganda over the Bill. In such a context, we requested the Centre that the Bill should not be passed,” Chandrasekhar said. He added that the BJP state unit’s intervention may not be the only reason why the Centre decided to defer the Bill.
“The FCRA Bill is not targeting any community. How can an amendment, or general reform in a Bill, target one community when, across the board, people have to comply with it?,” he asked. The BJP leader said that for many years, the FCRA implementation was very lax, and it was being grossly misused. “Many organisations, cutting across community lines, have had their FCRA permissions revoked because of non-compliance with the law,” he said.
On the NDA manifesto released on Tuesday, Chandrasekhar said it lays out a long-term vision for the comprehensive economic rebuilding of the state.
