KOZHIKODE: Strongly opposing the Railway Board’s decision to transfer the Mangaluru region, including Ullal, from the Palakkad division to the Mysuru division, UDF MPs M K Raghavan, E T Mohammed Basheer and Shafi Parambil have announced a satyagraha in front of the Palakkad divisional railway manager’s (DRM) office on Wednesday — Thiruvonam day.
At a joint press conference, the MPs termed the move an “unjust and unacceptable” decision that would adversely affect the railway development and passenger interests of Malabar and Kerala. The Railway Board, in its August 21, 2026 order, has decided to transfer the Mangaluru region from the Palakkad Division of Southern Railway to the Mysuru Division under South Western Railway, with effect from October 1.
The MPs demanded that the order be kept in abeyance and that no further steps be taken until formal consultations are held with the Kerala government and MPs. They said Mangaluru is crucial to the financial strength of the Palakkad division, and would lose around `1,000-1,100 crore in annual revenue generated through Mangaluru port and nearby stations.
