BHOPAL: An interstate narcotics drug unit was busted on Monday in western Madhya Pradesh's Ratlam district, which was being run under the cover of a poultry farm in Borkheda village under Piploda police station area.

The police team seized raw material, including 175 kg chemical, 200 gm of manufactured MDMA and related equipment worth over Rs 24 lakh.

According to Ratlam district police superintendent Amit Kumar, the unearthing of the unit has led to the busting of an interstate MDMA drug network, which was run by alleged kingpin Jamshed Lala alias Jamshed Seth.

During interrogation, Jamshed Lala revealed that he was running the racket in association with those involved in similar drug trade in other states. Primary probe has also revealed that Lala was accused in multiple NDPS Act cases in MP, Rajasthan and other states.

The investigations further revealed that raw material (chemical) for making the synthetic drugs was being sourced from neighbouring Pratapgarh district of Rajasthan, and just before the unit was busted, a large volume of MDMA had been supplied to customers in other states via Rajasthan.

This is not the first time that an illicit MDMA unit has been busted in Ratlam district. In the past, similar units have been busted by local police in Ratlam district.

Notably, districts of western Madhya Pradesh and adjoining southeastern Rajasthan, which have long formed the opium cultivation belt and smuggling route of the country, are now emerging as the hotspots of illegal manufacturing and smuggling of MDMA synthetic drug.

In February 2026, an inter-state MDMA manufacture-smuggling racket was busted in Surjana village in western MP’s Mandsaur district’s Garoth area, which is located close to the backwaters of the Gandhi Sagar Dam.

Three months before it, a similar MDMA interstate racket having its base in villages close to the Gandhi Sagar Dam’s backwaters was busted by the MP police.

Earlier on November 28, 2025, a similar MDMA manufacturing and smuggling racket was busted by the MP Police’s narcotics wing in Lasudiya Hastmurar village of western MP’s Neemuch district, which is also located close to the Gandhi Sagar Dam’s backwaters.

The districts located in MP’s Malwa region (western MP), including Mandsaur, Neemuch and Ratlam and districts of the adjoining Rajasthan’s Mewar and Hadoti region (southeastern Rajasthan), including Pratapgarh, Chittorgarh, Jhalawar and Kota, have reported major seizures of MDMA and busting of related rackets in the last few months.
