CUTTACK: The Bar and the Bench not only have the prime responsibility to uphold the integrity and reputation of the judicial system but also ensure that justice is accessible to every person in society, said Governor M.C. Bhandare here today.
Inaugurating the 150th anniversary celebration of the Bar Association of Cuttack, the oldest in the State, Bhandare observed that poverty was a major hindrance in making justice available for the majority of the population. The bar and the bench, thus, have an immense responsibility on their shoulders to ensure that the poorest are not denied justice.
On the occasion, Chairman of Law Commission Justice AR Laxman said work culture should be improved so as to speed up the justice delivery system. Lack of courts, vacancies in judicial posts and poor infrastructure have undermined the administration of justice.
Twelve senior members of the Bar, including Bibhudendu Mishra, Advocate-General Bijay Krushna Mahanty and former Advocate-General Sovesh Roy were felicitated. Among others, Orissa High Court Chief Justice BS Chauhan spoke.
