THE bed of Mahanadi near Gadgadia Ghat is now playing host to one of the largest spiritual congregations in the Millennium city. Saints, sadhus and seers from across the country have come together here to take part in the first of its kind Kalinga Kumbh Mela and the Biswashanti Biswarupa Mahanadi Garba Mahayagna which went underway on Thursday.

The seven day spiritual assembly would conduct the uninterrupted yagna for propagating peace and harmony in the world. The Kumbh Mela has been organised in accordance with the instructions inscribed in the Malika. The decisions taken by the sadhus and saints in course of the mela would set directions for world peace and uplift of mankind, according to the Nikhila Utkal Math Mandir Seva Sangh which is organising the event.

More than 300 sadhus from Orissa and the country including Haridwar, Varanasi and other holy places would be coming in to attend the Mela. The mela involves religious rituals, Bhagavad Charcha and deliberations among the participants. Swami Somananda Saraswati, Ganga Dasji Maharaj are some known names in the mela. Religious discourses would also be imparted each day as more than seven lakh common people would be attending the mela.

A gigantic statue of Lord Vishnu in his Biswarupa form has been erected at the site. The 40 ft statue is the basis of the congregation with all discussions and deliberations revolving around the message propounded by the God in this form. besides, statues of Brahma Gayatri, Panchamukhi Hanuman, Krishna rasalila, Ananta Kalki, etc have also been installed. The yagna would also seek divine blessings for the river Mahanadi, Swami Arupananda said.
