BHUBANESWAR: The Government will launch a drive from November 10 to January 5, 2010 to verify ghost and duplicate ration cards in circulation.

Food Supplies and Consumer Welfare Department today issued instruction to all district collectors to ensure that the verification of ration cards is completed in time.

The department has instructed its field staff to verify the ration cards of BPL families during lifting of their Rs 2-a-kg rice. The highly subsidised rice is supplied to the beneficiaries from fifth to seventh and 20th to 22nd of every month. The APL cards will also be verified by designated officials.

The department will prepare a list of all the ration card holders by November 15 and the list will be published for the public. Wide publicity will be given to the Government drive. Verification of ration cards will be taken up at the Government fair price shops in three phases, from November 20 to 22, December 5 to 7 and Dec 20 to 22.

The ration card holders have been advised to bring the relevant proofs i.e voter I-card, driving licence, bank passbook, kishan credit card, post office passbook, NREGS job card, caste certificate, land patta, freedom fighter’s I-card, railway I-card and pension order for identification.

The verifying officers will submit a report of all the valid cards in format-A by December 25 and invalid cards in format-B1 by January 5.
