BHUBANESWAR: Continuing its excellence as one of the prominent chapters of the Institute of Cost and Works Accountants of India (ICWAI) from among 94 in the country, the Cuttack-Bhubaneswar Chapter of ICWAI today felicitated its brilliant students and also unveiled the grand plan to make the local chapter as a `centre of excellence’ by the end of this academic session.
Also with the need to manage more and more small and medium enterprises (SMEs), the members urged all the stakeholders concerned in higher education sector to facilitate launching of the Certificate Course in Accounting Technicians (CCAT) in Commerce departments of the government-run colleges so that any student with Plus Two qualification can take the course for Rs 8,600 and be an accounting technician as the State is emerging as a major industrial hub.
``It is not possible for all the SMEs to go for ICWAI passouts as it would cost them a lot, so by employing the CCAT passouts they can have their costing part managed by employing more accounting technicians which can be supervised by one or two cost and management accountants (CMAs),’’ said former ICWAI central council member Suresh Chandra Mohanty.
On the occasion, chapter chairman S. Mohapatra and former ICWAI president Prabhakar Mohanty said from the 94 national and eight overseas chapters the local chapter has got the distinction of securing 13 best chapter awards in the past and registered 1,200 students per annum.
``Orissa is currently having four other chapters at Berhampur, Rourkela, Sambalpur, Talcher-Angul and Jajpur-Keonjhar,’’ they said adding new emerging localities like Paradip and Dhamra would be the future centres if the industrialisation process remains on the `track’.
CMD IDCOL Aurobinda Behera felicitated Dusmanta Kumar Mishra with `Young CWA Award’ for becoming a CMA before 23 years of age. Former local chapter student Swati Kejarwal, who topped the Institute of Company Secretaries of India exam, was also awarded.
In the June term, 34 students cleared the final and 115 cleared their Intermediate examination and 385 have cleared different groups.
Calling the ICWAI fee structure as one of the cheapest among all professional institutions, the local chapter members also claimed that 120 students got employment in the previous session in local, regional and national selection processes.
They also urged the State Government for inclusion of the ICWAI products in the finance cadre for inculcating better `fiscal discipline’ and `crisis management skills’ in the administration as the region is all set to invite more investment in future.
