BERHAMPUR: Indian Army showcased its war preparedness in a spectacular display of firepower on sea beach adjacent to Army Air Defence College (AADC) at Golabandh here today. The defence drill was organised by AADC to demonstrate the might of Army Air Defence to senior officers of Defence Services Staff College, who are on a study tour. Around 270 officers of Indian Army, Navy, Air Force and officials of friendly foreign countries were present. They were received by Lt Gen Kuldip Singh, Commandant of AADC. This was the second such demo, said AADC sources. The first one was conducted in January last year.  Missile systems including OSA-AK weapon system, Strella 10 m missile, Igla-1M shoulder-fired missile besides gun systems, including Schilka weapon system, L/70 gun and ZU-23 mm twin barrel gun were fired during the demonstration. Various types of target systems, including ISPTA Lakshya pilotless target aircraft, aero-models of 26 cc and 7.5 cc, ATI (air target imitator), aeromodels with infra-red flares and Sleeve were also used in the demo. Para-barrels were dropped from AN-32 aircraft of India Air Force from a height of 5000 metres. The aerial target support was provided by state-of-the-art Inter Services Pilotless Target Aircraft - Lakshya - manufactured indigenously by DRDO, said AADC officials. Later the dignitaries visited various training facilities in the college.  Prior to the firing demo, the AADC authorities warned the local fishermen not to venture into the sea. However, some fishermen were found fishing in the sea, around one km from the firing spot.  The AADC is planning to conduct the next drill on January 12.
