BHUBANESWAR: Former Chief Justice of India Gopal Ballav Patnaik was today conferred Honorary Doctorate in Law by Utkal University during the

annual day function of University Law College here. On the occasion, Governor

and Chancellor Murlidhar Chandrakant Bhandare called upon the law students

to develop passion for justice and adopt impartiality to become successful in the noble profession of law. He also reminisced his days in the Government Law College, Mumbai, and his long association with some of the leading legal brains of the country such as Nani Palkhivala, Fali S Nariman, Anil Diwan and others. He said that he studied law solely for the reasons as independence of the profession and that all the founding fathers of modern India from Mahatma

Gandhi, Jawaharlal Nehru, Rajendra Prasad and Sardar Patel were lawyers.

Justice GB Patnaik underlined the importance of an independent judiciary for
