BHUBANESWAR: A book by Dinanath Pathy, which is full of narrations, sketches, poems and paintings, was released on Sunday. It has been named ‘Oviga, Where Time Stands Still.’
Eminent poet, playwright and fiction writer of Odisha, JP Das released the book in the presence of the noted Litterateur Sitakant Mahapatra. Dinanath, who has written this book in honour of Eberhard Fischer, is a prominent art historian and a critic. He started his life with painting but gradually took to writing also. Calling himself a professional ‘book releaser’, Das said Dinanath is an important person in the field of art and culture of Odisha today.
Sitakant Mahapatra explained how Dinanath spent time in a small place called Oviga in Switzerland. Dinanath has a studio in Oviga where he frequents every year and there he came up with the inspiration for the book “For Me a Name Always Means a Person,” said Sitakant. Similarly, in this book, Oviga slowly takes the role of a person as the story develops. The book has been written in a style which is very intimate. Dinanath a personality Odisha is proud of, he said.
Dinanath said the book is not strictly a literary creation, rather it is an evolution of paintings and drawings.
“It is very difficult to indulge in creativity and be a historian at the same time, but I have tried to achieve that a bit through the book,” said Dinanath. Research is a detective work over the years, he said adding eventually art will live through history itself.
