BHUBANESWAR: The new campus of National Institute of Science Education and Research (NISER) at Jatni will have state-of-the-art facilities and will be eco-friendly.

Spread across an area of 298 acres, NISER is an autonomous institute of the Department of Atomic Energy. The land for campus construction has already been acquired. Currently, the institute is functioning from a temporary campus of the Institute of Physics.

Solar panels will be placed at the top floor of the library for supplying power to the campus. “We will be much ahead of government ratings for green building for our new campus,” NISER’s registrar Abhay Kumar Naik said. The campus will accommodate 3,500 students, teaching staff and officers.

Around nine hostels and residences will also come up. One of the hostels will be handed over to NISER in the next academic session.

This will be done in lieu of the increasing number of students in the next academic session. “We are expanding on a daily basis and the Government will not give us additional accommodation for increasing number of students. So we will be shifting a few of the students to the new hostel next year,” explained Naik.

The campus will also have a sports complex and administrative building. It will have a touch of Odisha’s traditional architecture.

There will be a hillock, shopping complex, petrol pump, post office and dispensary on the campus.  “We will be creating a mini city inside the campus,” said Naik.
