

BHUBANESWAR: Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik launched ‘Odisha Sampad’, a web-based block GIS atlas of the State containing the spatial and statistical information of all the 314 blocks, village wise.
The atlas launched at a function in the State Secretariat here has been developed by Orissa Space Applications Centre (ORSAC). The information content has been built on the basis of satellite image interpretation, survey at the block level and maps of other departments and agencies.
The web atlas contains information on natural resources like land utilisation, distribution of wastelands, forest lands, agriculture area, plantation, settlement and water bodies. It also has village wise information on soil, slope, lithology, drainage, geomorphology and groundwater potential.
All the administrative boundaries of state, block, gram panchayat, village, assembly and parliamentary constituencies and watershed are available in the website. Besides having information on demographic and beneficiaries of all the villages, it has data on infrastructure facilities including canal, road, rain network, health and educational facilities, location tips on drinking water wells, banks, markets and telecommunication network.
The datasets can be viewed by public from ORSAC website www.orsac.org or www.odishasampad.in from tomorrow morning.
The Chief Minister said that the datasets can be of immense use to administrators, researchers, engineers, scientists, planners and social workers of the State. Stating that the database can be used for various development planning activities at the grassroots level, Naveen said that the most important aspect of Odisha Sampad is providing development-related data to common people. They can know about the development activities completed and continuing in their village from the website.
Minister of State for Science and Technology Ramesh Chandra Majhi said that the database will be expanded by the integration of information from the line departments.
ORSAC Chairman and Chief Secretary Bijay Kumar Patnaik advised the line departments to make extensive use of it. ORSAC chief executive A K Mohapatra presented the content of the website and the procedure of accessing it.
