BHUBANESWAR: Even as the top bosses of the Commissionerate Police were busy in a crime review meeting, another gruesome murder took place in the Gada Gopinath Prasad (GGP) area of the city late this evening, pointing to the rapidly deteriorating law and order situation. It is the third one during the last four days.
The assailants hacked to death one Sanjay Gauda, a 35-year-old businessman on the Palasuni-GGP road at around 8.45 pm to 9 pm. Gauda, who had a shop of concrete rings used in the construction of wells, was on his way back from the shop on a motorcycle when the killers attacked him.
The bike, helmet and the headless body were found lying on the road. The brutal manner in which Gauda was killed can be gauged from the fact that the severed head was lying about 10 feet away on the road from the body. The incident occurred hardly 100 meters from the shop.
According to the police, the killers were waiting at some place in the area for Gauda to pass that way and struck at him. The motive of the crime and the identity of the killers are yet to be established. The killers fled the area.
The city woke up to the chilling murder of a courier company’s senior executive Debasis Mohanty whose bullet-shot body was found in his car at Janla by the National Highway No. 5, about 15 km from here on Monday. A manager with First Flight, Mohanty’s body was lying in the rear seat of his car near the compound wall of a school.
The second murder rocked the City the same day when a 32-year-old person Butan Singh was hacked to death along the railway tracks adjoining a slum.
The incident occurred during the evening hours when Butan (32) picked a fight with three others. All of them were boozing when the fight took an ugly turn and ended in Butan’s death.
