A record number of students have taken admission through the Diploma Entrance Test (DET)-2012 to the various diploma courses across the State, surpassing previous year’s number.
Last year, around 44,000 students had qualified the DET and 15,000 students taken admission into the diploma courses. During the lateral entry in third semester last year, an additional 6,500 students took admission into the diploma courses. Surpassing the previous year’s record, this year out of the 53,000 rank-holders, 18,000 candidates have taken admission into the diploma courses. An additional 9,000 students have taken admission through the lateral entry. The demand for core branches like Mechanical, Civil and Electrical has also risen with around 85 per cent students opting for these courses. The rest 15 pc of have opted for courses like Information Technology, Computer Science and the like. All the seats in Government diploma institutes have been filled up.
The DET 2012 was conducted on May 13 and the e-counselling process, that started on June 25, concluded on August 31. Around 141 examination centres were set up inside the State and six outside for smooth conduction of tests. For counselling purpose, 14 nodal centres were set up. ENS
