SALEPUR: Eminent child-litterateur, lyricist, poet and writer Khirod Chandra Pothal passed away at the SCB Medical College and Hospital, Cuttack on Sunday. He was 73 and is survived by his wife, two sons and as many daughters. He was bed-ridden for some days and had been admitted to the MCH.

Born in Gopapur village under Nischintakoili block in 1939, Pothal had started his career at the age of 15. Among the devotional songs penned by him, the most famous one was ‘Kotha Bhoga Khiya’ that was sung by ‘Bhajan Samrat’ Bhikari Bal. He was also a lyricist for the AIR, Cuttack, in 1970. His body has been taken to his native Gopapur in Nischintakoili block for funeral.
