No nomination was filed on the last date of filing nomination for urban local body (ULB) polls on Saturday in Sambalpur, Jharsuguda, Deogarh and Bargarh districts.
Although three persons have filed nomination for Khariar and Khariar Road NACs in Nuapada district, sources said they will withdraw the papers. As the three aspiring candidates had filed nominations before the Nuapada Bar Association decided to join the agitation, they have agreed to withdraw nominations respecting the decision of the Bar Association. Meanwhile, striking lawyers closed down Government offices.Â
Puri: For 32-member council of Puri Municipality, 143 candidates have filed nominations. The Puri Municipality, which has been under the Janata Dal and BJD for the last three decades, has 1,50,157 voters.
Athagarh: In Athagarh, 57 candidates filed nominations for 18 wards of the NAC, while 46 candidates filed papers for Banki NAC. In all, 18 wards of Athagarh and 17 wards of Banki, both BJD and Congress candidates filed nominations while BJP is contesting in eight seats in Athagarh and 4 in Banki.
Nabarangpur: Around 73 candidates including 33 women have filed nominations for 17 wards of Nabarangpur Municipality. While both BJD and Congress have fielded their candidates in all the 17 wards, BJP has fielded candidates in eight wards. Besides, 31 candidates have filed papers as Independent. Of them, around 10 aspirants are from BJD who were denied party tickets. Nine wards are reserved for women candidates.
Koraput: Around 142 candidates have filed nominations for Jeypore Municipality, 95 for Koraput NAC and 52 for Kotpad NAC. After delimitation, Jeypore comprises 28 wards having 62,212 voters, Koraput NAC with 21 wards has 31,297 voters and Kotpad NAC comprising 13 wards has 11,453 voters.
